The Epitaph of Roxas

April 21, 2010

I’ve gotten myself addicted to Kingdom Hearts again. I’ve just completed 358/2 Days, and this came to mind.

Can you imagine

What it would be like

To have friends,

To have memories,

To have family,

To be trapped,

In a good way,

By your memories?

Can you imagine

Having a weapon

That only you could summon

And use at your own will?

I’m sure you don’t.

I can imagine it.

I am it.

I am Sora.

I can summon the Keyblade

A weapon of infinite power

That only I,

And one other person,

Can use.

I was, at one time,

A normal person like you.

Then the Heartless came.

Friends turned on me.

Friends were lost.

Friends turned dark.

Riku

Kairi

Memories of them both.

All of them lost.

In order to save Kairi

I had to release her heart from her body

I needed to turn the Keyblade on myself

I did

My heart was released

As was hers

We were Nobodies

We were Heartless

We were Organization XIII members

Our memories slipped away,

As with our hearts

Riku was engulfed in shadow

He had turned into the very

Thing he so hated before.

Kairi and I were swept to two different worlds.

Traverse Town was where I was swept

I still don’t know where Kairi went

I went to Castle Oblivion

The only place I had remembered

But sort of… didn’t remember.

I found a witch

Naminé

She told me

“I can get your memories back!”

She told me

“Memories of your friends,

Family,

You can be trapped again,

In a good way,

In your memories!”

She told me

“I can only do it

If you make it to the

Thirteenth floor of

Castle Oblivion!”

During that hike up,

I encountered the lord of the castle.

Marluxia

He could summon

A weapon

Just like me

Only… it wasn’t a Keyblade.

A huge scythe with flowers

Growing up the long handle was his weapon.

I had to fight him.

I defeated him.

I met Naminé on the thirteenth floor

She explained I would have to sleep

For almost a year

I wouldn’t remember fighting Marluxia.

I wouldn’t remember Naminé.

I wouldn’t remember any of the

Events at Castle Oblivion.

I promised I would always remember Naminé

And stepped into the memory chamber.

And my chain of memories were being mended

And put together by Naminé

I’m still in the sleep chamber, as Sora.

It was almost like a dream, I guess.

I saw myself in a black robe

Fighting off Heartless with my Keyblade.

Only, it wasn’t the yellow-handled key

Shape it was before.

It also acted differently, each time it changed.

I saw Heartless I had never seen before.

I saw people I had never seen before, too.

Wearing the same black robe.

They were fighting with me.

Helping me vanquish the Heartless.

There was one of the people,

Red hair, spiked back.

He had Chakrams for his weapon,

And he could summon it just like I could the Keyblade.

My Nobody befriended him

When we were done with whatever Heartless

The leader of the Organization sent us to destroy

We would meet under a clock tower.

Eat sea-salt ice cream

I couldn’t taste it, but my Nobody seemed to like it

That was when I realized

I was seeing through the eyes of my Nobody.

I was always referred to as Roxas,

Not once Sora

Except for in dreams.

My Nobody would sleep,

And would see scenes of everything between

A battle between someone with there eyes covered

Wielding a dark Keyblade

To a girl, drawing what looked like

Roxas, standing with the other person.

In the black robe of the Organization

Several days after joining the Organization,

I met the newest member.

She was another Keyblade wielder

Another of the Light.

She didn’t talk much, when she first joined

Just as I hadn’t.

When she did start to talk,

The chakram-weilder and I showed her our spot

Right under the clock tower

We’d eat our ice cream

And then just go back to

The castle where the Organization XIII dwelled.

Waiting for the next day to come,

And more missions from Saïx.

I learned more and more

Each day about the Organization’s meaning.

They were there to gather Hearts from Heartless

Then combine them to form Kingdom Hearts

Then we, the only gathering of Nobodies,

Would combine with Kingdom Hearts

And gain hearts for ourselves.

We’d get feelings,

Emotions,

Be able to make friends,

Be able to love,

There would be no more Heartless.

The Organization would disband,

We’d all probably never see each other again.

Xion and I were the only people able to get Hearts

Because of our Keyblades.

The people pushed us to our limits

Of defeating Heartless.

They sent us after things twice our size, even more.

They’d send us at enemies,

Expecting us to do certain things,

We’d fail, and get yelled at by Saïx

It was hard, working for Organization XIII

I’d be paired with the Chakram-weilder.

We’d defeat Heartless, together.

We completed all the missions against us.

We were an unbreakable pair

Then, on one mission in Twilight Town,

We were up against three huge Heartless.

Xion, the Chakram-weilder, and I all took on the mission together.

We defeated the Heartless.

All by working together.

Then, it all went downhill.

Xion fell into a deep sleep

And wouldn’t wake up.

Roxas would bring her seashells,

Place them by her head.

She finally woke up

After ten days.

Ten days of infinite sleep.

Kind of like where I was now.

She woke up and put one of the seashells to her ear,

My Nobody asked her “What do you hear?”

“The ocean, sounds like a snoring giant.

Asleep, just as I was.” She replied.

The Chakram-weilder came in and noticed Xion was up

“Oh! Hey there, Sleeping Beauty” He said

We laughed. Felt.

Something Nobodies weren’t able to do.

“Why do you think this happened, Axel?”

Then I realized.

Before then, I’d never known the Chakram-weilder’s name.

He rubbed the back of his head. Told us

“I asked Saïx about it

He seemed kind of… suspicious about all of this.

He called you broken, Xion.”

“He what?” I replied.

“She is NOT broken.”

“That’s what I said”

Axel replied.

“He acted like she was a glitched machine.

As if he knew something about the two of you.

I think he does…”
